Talent Development Programme

Golf Wellington are proud to have successful development programs for young emerging golfers.

The Talent Development Programme (TPD), formerly Junior Academy, was established in 2005 by Wellington Professional golfer Mark Brown, with the generous support of Pelorus Trust. It provides assistance for Performance and Developing U19 boys and girls, including elements such as coaching, golf psychology, physiology and nutrition with the aim to promote mastery and excellence in the golfing environment.

Programme Format

The 2024 TDP will follow a similar format to previous programmes.

Performance Group

For up to 12 players, significant parts of the programme being camps away from Wellington focused of event preparation and course management; modules on Physio and Strength Conditioning (improvement, prevention, injury analysis and rehab), Mind Skills Development, Personal Planning, Diet and Rules.

Development Group

‍For up to 24 players, one day coaching and playing modules, Mind Skills Development, Personal Planning, Diet and Rules. Also there will be a module on the role of parents, caregivers, support persons, how to best contribute to your young players progress.

Selection Criteria

Criteria for consideration are as follows, but not limited to;

‍Performance Group

Interclub (especially Junior Competition) results, Tournament results, Representative results where applicable, Interpersonal and Communication skills, Leadership, contribution and value to Interclub and Representative teams, where applicable.

Development Group

Junior Interclub results where applicable, rounds played in a year, handicap reduction, interpersonal and communication skills, enthusiasm and raw potential.
